Dynamic Dunsford United Church Newsletter – September 1, 2021
Update from the Chair
EXCITING REOPENING NEWS!
On Sunday, September 12 at 10 a.m. we will be having our first in person worship service in 2021 and it is shaping up to be pretty special! Rev. Anne Hepburn will bring the message AND Brenda Shield will be at the keyboard as our music supply person AND Christena-Lynn will sing a solo for us!
Greg Phillips has connected our new computer system for the media booth – “Thanks Greg!” – and we are looking for people to sign up to work in the back corner.
Soloists are most welcome for our fall worship Sundays so check over your music and your calendars. Let’s get those dates filled!
Covid protocols including physical distancing, wearing of masks and hand sanitizing will be part of the plan. Let’s rejoice in returning and keep everyone safe.
JUST ONE MORE!
We now have Carolle and John on the stewardship team. At least three people should form this team. Please contact Carol Embury for more information.

Only one more Sunday zoom service before we go back to in person worship! Join us live Sunday morning for chat 9:30 to 10 and service at 10!

Your Generosity Matters: Support for the People of Haiti

On Saturday, August 14 a devastating earthquake struck that morning, destroying homes, community buildings, hospitals, and taking precious lives. And Tropical Storm Grace hit Haiti on August 16, making an already difficult and challenging situation even worse. Join us in prayer for the people of Haiti, and find out what Mission & Service partners say you can do to help. The Canadian government will match your donations until September 3, doubling the impact of your gift. Please give today.
40 Days of Engagement on Anti-Racism

Are you or your congregation looking for a meaningful way to continue your anti-racism work? Then consider engaging with this brand new 40-day program of learning, reflection, activities, advocacy, and action. Each day from Tuesday, October 12 to Friday, November 26 (with the exception of Sundays) there will be a new reflection on anti-racism, as well as activities suitable for adults and children. These activities can be done alone, as a family, or in groups. Find out more!
Orange Shirt Day

The summer of 2021 was a summer of orange shirts as Indigenous communities across the country shared the truth they have always known: that many of the children who never returned from residential schools remain on the grounds of those institutions in unmarked burial sites. These communities are now seeking to honour the missing children.
This Orange Shirt Day is also the first observance of a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. For settler Christians in particular, this is a time when we can reflect on our role in colonialism and the residential school system, and our ongoing responsibility to make reparations. Find out more.
Call for Nominations: Centennial Celebrations Committee
In a few short years, it will be the 100th anniversary of The United Church of Canada. The Centennial Celebrations Committee will reflect on the church’s complicated history and plan a way for the whole church to participate in recognizing, acknowledging, and celebrating who we are and who we might be on this momentous anniversary. Nominate someone or express your own interest by Wednesday, September 15.
Church and State: Two United Church Ministers on their Role in Politics

With the federal election just weeks away, why not explore some titles by two United Church ministers who enjoyed political careers alongside their ministry? In The Blaikie Report, Bill Blaikie reflects on three decades in the House of Commons. And The Queer Evangelist is Rev. Dr. Cheri DiNovo’s recently released memoir, charting her life story from living on the streets as a teen to becoming an MPP and social justice advocate.
