Greetings from Sharon:
Carol E reported we had 22 people at worship on Sunday. What a special delight we had in welcoming Anna Thurston, her daughter Janet and son-in-law Dale to be with us in worship. Thanks to everyone for participating in worship in whatever way you are joining with us. Please share with others you know.
Thank-you to everyone for following protocols. While things are very different from what we are accustomed to experiencing in worship, we are grateful for patience and cooperation. We are doing all we can to stay safe. The executive will provide any updates as they continue to monitor developments with the pandemic. Currently the weekly service is being offered in-person in the sanctuary, through the TV monitor in the hall, live Zoom on-line at 10:00 A.M. The service is available on YouTube and an email of the transcript is being sent by email on Sundays and then sent in the Canada Post for those without email.
Last weekend 151 devices were connected, not sure how many delegates, as several churches were meeting in small groups of two or three from one device. We met virtually for the fall meeting of ECORC. What a blessing to come together, again, so differently than we are accustomed, but a time of rich learning, information sharing and decision making to take part in the life and work of our regional council.
Thanks for all your recommends and help for the dishwasher dilemma in our household! The new dishwasher from Kennedy’s in Lindsay is being delivered and installed today! Such a blessing!
The week is whipping by with only three sleeps until Sarah’s wedding. Emily has made it safely following an intensive eighteen hour straight through drive, in the aftermath of their hurricane experiences last week! Trevor was unable to come but we are grateful Emily is here. The announcements yesterday move us into more restricted situations for those living in retirement and long term care for safety and well being as announced provincially yesterday. These go into effect Monday, meaning my sister and brother-in-law will be able to bring mom from the retirement village Saturday afternoon, if all goes well 😊
Thank-you for your continued prayers for our family.
Cliff and I will be leaving in the very early wee hours of Monday morning to travel to Nova Scotia by car with Emily. We have been approved for entry into New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. We will be under fourteen day self-isolation, but Emily and I have benefit of tech to be able to work. Cliff is going to spend time gardening in the backyard, as restrictions allow for this. While working from away, you can reach me at 705-875-8837, my usual phone number. Connect – text, phone, email, arrange a Zoom visit, facetime visit or a whatsapp visit. For email, firstname.lastname@example.org
Please note, as Sharon and Cliff have changed internet providers, their xplornet email addresses will no longer function. Please use email@example.com I have approved study leave and vacation time during my time away. Kevin Fitzpatrick is providing emergency pastoral care until November 7.
I will be returning for Remembrance Day worship November 8. We will need to be creative and cannot predict the state of COVID-19 impacts on our lives over a month from now. We have traditionally brought in important items and memories marking Remembrance Day. If you are able to take a photo and submit it to Christena-Lynn, perhaps we can incorporate some of our memories, photos of veterans, artifacts, whatever is a good connection for you.
Christena-Lynn continues to work in the church office on Wednesdays between 9:00 and 5:00 P.M. The building remains locked to all visitors. Please phone or text her if you plan to come into the building. Please remember public health requires you wear a mask when entering the building.
Please continue to share the daily email messages “A Little Spiritual Care.”
Your submissions of material for the spiritual care messages are always welcome, I am especially in need of photos. Please label them so I know what they are and who to credit. Thanks 😊 We welcome Nancy Payne next Sunday as our Thanksgiving/Anniversary worship leader and speaker.
If you have not already done so, please visit the revised website now on WordPress. Contact Christena-Lynn in the office as she can now do much of the editing and revising.
The September 27 worship service was recorded as part of the Zoom on-line. Abigail Campbell recorded the service. Carol Embury edited it and it will be uploaded to the Dunsford United Church YouTube channel soon. It was recorded through the church camera and offers a better picture view than from Sharon’s iPhone.
Thanks to all who wore orange on Sunday and today as we honour and remember children who attended residential schools and lift up every child matters!
God willing, my greeting will come from Nova Scotia next week.
Stay safe and stay well.
Update from the Board:
We are sorry to announce that Gregory Phillips has advised the board of Dunsford United Church that he intends to break the contract we currently have with him for the services of Treasurer. We wish to thank Greg for his hard work getting our books set up on a new system and providing excellent bookkeeping services for us since 2018. Greg has assured us that he will continue in his role until the end of this year and provide the year-end reports for 2020. We are sad to see him go and wish him well in his future endeavors.
We will now be actively recruiting for a Treasurer which will be a paid position. If you yourself, or someone you know has accounting or bookkeeping experience that would work well in this role, we invite you to contact the church office or a board member. Please provide contact information so that we can forward more details when a job description becomes available.
Yours in Christ, Carol Embury
PAR is a direct debit program through an automatic monthly withdrawal from your bank account. It is a convenient way to provide consistent, year-round financial support to our church. Completed forms may be sealed in an envelope, attention: Kathy Prentice, and placed on the offering plate.
If you are already on PAR (pre-authorized remittance), THANK YOU! We encourage you to continue to make your financial offerings to the church. Offerings can be made by cheque, through PayPal or on the new website soon, by clicking the “Canada Helps” donation button on our website. Please do what you can to continue to support our ongoing mission and ministry together.
No offering is being collected during worship as part of our COVID-19 protocols. Your offering can be placed in the offering plate on the table as you exit worship.
The Dunsford Community Food Bank: Fay Carslake is now the Board Chair and Volunteer Coordinator. firstname.lastname@example.org or 705-341-3166.
