Worship Schedule

Schedule for April is as follows:

April 11 – Lisa Norman LLWL

April 18 – Rev. Anne Hepburn

April 25 – Lisa Norman LLWL

Our very first zoom worship service was successfully launched with only a few glitches. We invite everyone to join us as you are able! The services will also be recorded and be available for viewing later on the church YouTube channel.

New! starting April 11th – Abigail Campbell will be leading Jr. Church at 11 a.m. following the zoom service. Children are invited to join in for their special worship time together.

Treasurer Position – We recently became aware that it is necessary for us to have a church Treasurer in addition to our hired bookkeeper. Sandra Sornberger has graciously agreed to act as Treasurer for which we are very grateful!

Vacancies – Please prayerfully consider how you might help!

Pulpit Supply Assistant – To arrange pulpit supply for the weeks that Anne will not be available. You can work from home and a contact list is provided. We will require pulpit supply for worship services for the foreseeable future. This position will be part of the Worship Team.

Mission Board Recording Secretary – To record minutes of board meetings (including executive meetings) in the manner according to the United Church Manual for distribution and church archives. All details are documented for guidance.

Region Representative – To act as the church liaison to the East Central Ontario Regional Council, attending meetings and advising our community of faith as to updates from the region council.

Worship Team (several openings) – Mary Lou has expressed an interest in the worship team but is not able to handle the two above positions that she currently holds as well as worship.

Chair for M&P committee – currently our team of two members requires a chair to join them. The chair person will be a member of the Mission Board executive.

Vice Chair of the Mission Board – To fill in as Chair when the Chair is unable to perform their duties.

Sincerely,

Light a Flame for a Guaranteed Livable Income

In this video, Moderator Richard Bott invites you to join the call for a Guaranteed Livable Income and contact our Prime Minister and Minister of Finance. This Thursday, April 8 is a chance to make this call visible; plan to light a candle, take a picture, and post publicly on social media (#UCCanlivableincome, #BasicIncome, #UCCan) in solidarity with more than 40 vigils being held online and in person across the country. Due to COVID-19, the vigils are restricted to locally designated individuals, and plans will be adjusted if needed. You can read more on the GLI webpage.

Strategic Planning Process 2021: Town Hall Meetings

The 43rd General Council will receive a major report recommending mission, vision, and key strategic priorities for The United Church of Canada at its October 2021 meeting. Following the major gathering of the commissioners in July 2018 in Oshawa, they agreed to meet annually until the 44th General Council to consider urgent matters of denominational importance. This strategic planning process aimed at providing a common direction for 2022‒2024 is one of those key urgent matters.

Consultations are happening across the church through focus groups, interviews, and surveys. Five Moderator’s Town Hall events are also planned and open to all members, with an emphasis on those in paid and volunteer leadership. All are welcome at these Town Halls.

Stories of Our Mission: Rainbow Camp Receives Governor General’s Award

Out of the blue, Harry Stewart and Chris Southin learned that they had won an award from the Governor General recognizing “great Canadians for exceptional deeds that bring honour to our country.” They received the honour for co-founding Rainbow Camp®, based in northern Ontario. Since 2012, the camp has welcomed young people of all sexual identities and gender expressions. Your support through Mission & Service has been there from the beginning. Here’s the story about how your gifts support award-winning, safe, welcoming spaces like Rainbow Camp®.

EAST CENTRAL ONTARIO REGIONAL COUNCIL OF THE UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA

Greetings,

Please consider joining us for a “Becoming an Affirming Regional Council” event, to be held Saturday morning, April 24.  At the East Central Ontario Regional Council Spring 2019 meeting, we initiated the process to become an Affirming Regional Council.  Now is the time to assess our readiness to be an Affirming community and to propose an action strategy to be and to continually become an Affirming Regional Council.

The April 24th event is critical step in preparation for the recommendations and motions to be presented to the Regional Council June meeting. Please join in this important conversation and help shape our Regional Council. The event is open to lay and clergy delegates to the Regional Council and to interested members of the faith communities.

The Regional Council is hosting topic-oriented events in preparation for the Spring Meeting of the Regional Council (June 5, 2021).  The “Becoming an Affirming Regional Council” Event on April 24th will be facilitated and led by members of the Affirming Forum. The Regional Council in June will be asked to accept and adopt the recommendations that come forth from this event.

This is your opportunity to shape our Regional Council. Please register here
