Update from the Chair
My sincere apologies to anyone who was trying to reach me this past week. Our home phone and internet services were down due to a damaged Bell wire. Despite five phone calls and five appointments for repair, we were unsuccessful in getting our line up until Brian G. was able to contact a manager and get the repair done March 3. Thanks Brian!
I still have space available at the church for anyone who would like to attend the AGM as mentioned in the announcement below. In order to meet our quorum, I encourage households where more than one member resides to have both people connect by sitting closely together (get cozy) or use two devices. I am afraid that there will be no pot luck lunch after the meeting this year. ☹
Annual General Meeting – Please be advised that our Annual General Meeting will be held by zoom. Date Sunday, March 7, time 1:30 p.m. You will be able to connect from your home on any device that can access the internet or by using your land line or cell phone. (See link below. Be aware that long distance charges may apply.)
At the church, we will be able to accommodate up to 8 people. Masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed. You must register to reserve a spot by phoning me at 705-738-3183.
Visit our website to view a copy of the annual report. (See link below). Only those people who have indicated that they do not have access to the internet will receive a hard copy of the report prior to the meeting. We would like to see as many people as possible take part in this annual meeting which is so important to the life of our church.
Nominations – The Worship team and the Ministry and Personnel team as well as the Mission Board still have openings. I have not been made aware of any new nominations having come forward in the last few weeks. We need to have these positions filled in order to have a viable church governance as per the guidelines stated in the United Church Manual.

Shaun and Kristie had a baby boy on Friday January 26, 2021 at 4:35 pm. 8 lbs 10 oz and 21″ long. All are doing well and home now. I can’t hold him yet of course, but had a patio door visit yesterday.
FROM UNITED CHURCH OF CANADA
National Affirming P.I.E. Day
P.I.E. = Public. Intentional. Explicit. These are the standards we hold ourselves and our welcome to when we become affirming, welcoming, or inclusive communities. March 14 is a chance to celebrate the full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ and Two Spirit people in faith communities and beyond across Canada; take a look at our resources to get inspired. In this video, Moderator Richard Bott invites you to celebrate P.I.E. Day with your faith community on March 14, 2021!
Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise
The United Church of Canada has been advocating for a Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) “with teeth” for years. Yet, as this news report shows, the Canadian government caved to mining industry pressure and ignored and kept secret its own report showing how to empower the Ombudsperson with the tools it needs to be effective.
Join our partner, the Canadian Network on Corporate Accountability, in taking action now! Tell the government that a powerless CORE is unacceptable and that impacted communities can wait no longer for access to justice.

A Prayer for Corporate Accountability
we give thanks for this world of beauty and mystery,
of living things, diverse and interdependent,
for each part of creation that reveals unique aspects of you.
Help us to discover our place as one strand in the web of life.
Help us to grow in wisdom and compassion.
So that we can recognize all people as kin.
Help us to seek ways each day
to honor your creation,
support human rights defenders,
move away from projects that destroy watersheds,
and protect land defenders
So that all may enjoy and live peaceable in your rich creation.
Respond to United Church partner, Canadian Network for Corporate Accountability’s call to action.
