Greetings from The Chair: Advent 2 – PEACE

We receive a card from Project Ploughshares (a disarmament, peace-promoting organization) every year. The quote on the front of this year’s card is “without justice and love, peace will always be a great illusion” – Dom Helder Camara, 1909-1999 Archbishop of Olinda and Recife, Brazil.

May you experience justice and love and find peace. May you practise justice and love and share peace.

A New Church Profile Needed

As we look towards our future as a Community of Faith, we will need to create for ourselves a new Church Profile. The United Church of Canada provides a guide document for creation of the profile and it should be done annually. Ours was last done in 2015. Although working on a profile during Covid restrictions may be challenging, it can also be a very rewarding experience. Please contact the church office or the Mission Board Chair if you are interested in being a part of this team.

Food Drive Sunday, Dec. 6

Please remember our food drive this Sunday from 2 – 4 p.m. Non-perishable food along with household and personal use items will be much appreciated! You can do a drive through drop off at the church parking lot or let us know if you need a porch pickup. Call Carol at 705-738-3183 before Sunday. Donations will go to the Dunsford Food Bank.

Greetings from Sharon:

Hoping you are settling into this simpler season of Advent. While it may not be easier, being so different, we are getting through it. How fortunate we are to know the true meaning of Christmas, the real reason for the season. Praying this season of love will bless you. A reminder that if you missed watching Sunday’s worship of Advent 1 Hope, we celebrated Communion virtually and also observed our Tinsel and Tears/Blue Christmas/Longest Night as we recognize season of grief, pain, loneliness and cope with feelings of loss. Continue to pray for all the people on your “Christmas list” and lift each other up, creatively connecting with each other sharing your love and compassion. Please give me a phone call if you would like to chat, send a text, email or let me know if you might like to set up a Zoom call so we can virtually connect. This time of year, porch visits are not so easy. If you might like to arrange to come and share a time of prayer in the sanctuary, please call me and we can set up a time. It will be a might chilly, but we will be out of the elements and the peace and serenity of our sanctuary may speak to your heart. We could be physically distanced, and I would be happy to pray with you and chat, allowing you to enjoy in- person the beautiful decorating for Christmas Diane Claridge has done. I can accommodate any day to meet at the church. Alternately, Christena-Lynn is working in the office on Wednesdays and can schedule a time for you to be in the sanctuary on your own, on the morning of Wednesday December 9, or during the day on December 16. I am not certain if the office is closing on December 23 and December 30. We will be using the sanctuary to record on Wednesday afternoon December 9 to complete our next prerecording of worship. While you are not physically present, please know the small worship and tech team feels you with us.

As part of our Advent offerings, I am inviting people to share in a story and prayer time with Cliff and I through prerecording on YouTube. It has been a tradition to read new and old, children’s stories during Advent. Drop by my YouTube channel and enjoy a few minutes of story and prayer. Many of the stories will be from our personal collection, lovingly shared in our home each year. Come enjoy!

A reminder that for this Sunday, December 6, Carol Embury has prepared some material for our reflection and spiritual care which C L will be including. As this is our white gift Sunday, everyone is reminded of the “fill the bank” food drive with drop off between 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. on Sunday December 6, 2020. Please call Carol Embury or Fay Carslake if you can help. We hope folks can make it out for our next in-person worship Sunday December 13, 2020 at 10:00 A.M.

The Executive of Dunsford United meets tomorrow evening at 7:00 P.M. by Zoom. Pray for the recommendations from the worship team and planning for the new year.
